The New Year's Day Triathlon
January 1st 2013
Thanks to the Tri Centre, Unique Events and
Edinburgh Triathletes we can welcome you to the
New Year's Day Triathlon.
This is a race for everyone; a fun race for those who have never done a
triathlon before (about a third of participants
are triathlon virgins each year) or a
competitive test of winter fitness for the
experienced. The race gives you the opportunity
to start the year as you mean to continue - and
with a great atmosphere from the support of both
competitors and spectators you will have a great
time. Every entrant receives a race goody so
they can remember their achievement.
If the 400m swim (8 lengths of the Commie Pool),
the 11 mile cycle (three times around Arthur's
Seat in a clockwise direction) or 3.5 mile run
(once around Arthur's Seat again clockwise)
seems too much then why not enter a team?
There is no need for the kids to feel left out -
there is a separate Duathlon race for 8 to 15
year olds. This involves a short run, 2k bike,
short run - all on closed roads. The Children's
race is at 11.30, the adults starts at 12.30.

Bowhill Winter Duathlon Series
January 27th and February 24th 2013
Anyone familiar with the series seems to love
it, and keeps coming back for more - this will
be the 11th year we think - gluttons for
punishment!. The format is usually Mountain Bike
followed by Trail Run, sometimes the other way
round. What the races always are though is muddy
and a bit hilly. Trust us, Bowhill will
CERTAINLY not disappoint in either of these
departments!.
They're very newcomer friendly and relaxed, but
also offer a stiff challenge if you're wanting
to try and go quick, or keep
your racing/fun motivation going over the winter
months. The series is set up for all sorts -
newbies to internationalists, triathletes,
runners, bikers, and people who just like to do
'stuff'. Come and have a go.

What are the 48 races?
Scottish Cycling MTB guru Paul Newnham came up

(dates TBC).

The Durty Triathlon will again be taking place at
St. Mary's Loch on the 27th July 2013.
The event is intended to offer a choice of distances
suit a range of desires and abilities. On one-hand,
the ‘Sprint’ distance race will be a great
introduction to Open Water swimming, and off-road
racing, but will provide a stiff challenge for the
speed-freaks as well.
The ‘Standard’ distance will be a tough, but very
rewarding challenge for those wanting to test
themselves, and also for experienced racers.

Craggy Island Triathlon
August 31st and September 1st 2013
Unique in the UK and probably the World, the
Craggy Island Triathlon will have you swimming
across the sound from the mainland to an island
to start your race. How cool is that?.
The island in this case is the rugged
spectacular and completely unspoilt Isle of
Kerrera, just off the West coast of Scotland
near the busy town and harbour of Oban.
The race is entirely off-road (there are no
roads on the island, so there’s not much choice
about that), and will take you from sea level to
the highest point of the island.

Hebridean Challenge AKA "The Heb"
September 5th - 7th 2013
Welcome to the all new Hebridean Challenge
Adventure Race, known and much-loved as 'The
Heb' - an exciting, engaging, truly adventurous
and absorbing race through the most spectacular,
wild and remote landscape the UK has to offer -
the Hebridean Island chain off the west coast of
Scotland!.
This unique race is for teams of 3 or Solos. You
may find yourself on a mountain bike, kayaking,
open water swimming, running and navigating from
a secret start location to the finish on the
Island of Barra.
Each night, the race will stop overnight in one
of the island communities - we'll provide a
meal, a place to pitch your tent, and perhaps
one or two surprises!.
Post-race will be a legendary and
hangover-inducing party in Castlebay.
The new Heb will be easy to take part in, but
still a tough challenge - less logistical fuss,
less cost, less hassle, but definately all the
adventure, excitement and fun. Perfect for
hardened adventure racers, newcomers to the
sport, and everyone in between.
